Back on Track with Misc.

Been a while since the last post, but it's busy times these days, with work, hubby, daughter and running.

Oh yes, I've been running regularly since the beginning of the year, and I'm finally back to my good ole 10k distance again, after that last injury in December. I'm ready to push forward to my 2013 goal distance of 15k. Goal race for that is the Gorilla Run in October, so I've got lots of time. Heck, 15k is so close to half-marathon distance, maybe I can achieve that by the end of 2013.

Maybe. Depends a lot of hubby and daughter.

The sad thing for me is that all the weight I lost in 2012, I promptly regained not long after I recovered from the horrible GI illness I had in early January. Someone yesterday told me I look slimmer. I don't think so, just maybe a bit more toned now.  You be the judge:

Before today's snowstormy, bone-chilling -22 deg C 10k run.
I have noticed that I'm slowly
getting faster (haha, what an oxymoron that is!). My fastest 5k training run is 30:10 mins (pace 6:01 mins/km) and my fastest 10k training run is 1:06:09 (pace 6:36 mins/km) so far. But these weren't continuous, in fact, I had to pause my Garmin a couple of times so that the rest of the group could catch up as I was running with the 10k clinic. I will need to test myself in some race or another, not sure which one yet, as most I've signed up are family walks, fun runs and the Vancouver Sun Run is to pace my sister in her first 10k. The latter race has me so excited, running with my little sister.  Love it!!!

Like I said, my daughter has been keeping me busy. A four year old will do that. Her birthday was last month, and of course her bday party as well. It's always fun with your own kid, no matter what the age. Yes, I mourn the fact that she is well and truly no longer a baby, heck she is even losing the baby fat - but in her place is a child with her own creative ideas and theories that she can't wait to tell me all about them. That is, when she is not expressing them through her books, her music, or her paintings.
Her newest painting when I got home from my run. A fish with hands. Go figure.
She still loves to run, but she no longer insists on running with me like she did at 18 mths. I still remember the tears I had to walk away from, because she was trying to put her shoes on one Sunday morning, saying "I want to run with Mama!" Instead, she has found other companions to run with:

Ditched mama for boys...how typical.
And before I go, I will say that Keith has been my inspiration aka prod to get myself back into blogging again. In his honour, I am posting a pic of our beautiful Siamese cat, who has become so comfortable with us that she has taken to sharing seats with us.  She is practically seatmates with my daughter!  So here is a rare moment that she decided to share a chair with me.

My adoring Casey...but please excuse my comfortable sheep pj's.
And off I go to my well deserved epsom salt bath....it's been calling me all afternoon now. See ya later!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! 10 K training runs, look at you go! Not sure if I'm going that far these days. No idea where my running fitness is, and not especially eager to find out given today's weather. Good for you for getting out in it. Linda would love your sheep PJ's. Nice photo of Casey. Since when is Evie FOUR???
